Programme Overview

Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Civil Engineering degree is a 2 years study in Kings Cornerstone + 2 years study in UTS Campus. This qualification is aligned with NEP2020 for progressive award, when learners successfully complete each stage with Certificate, Diploma, and Bachelors all within 4 years.
Learners will start with core Engineering curriculum from year 1 with agreed industry projects, further progressing to Highway Engineering and Construction Data Management.
The program has multiple awards from world’s leading testing & assessment company Pearson, UTS & other optional vendor certificates.

Course is designed and developed by industry experts from Vinci Constructions UK, Laing O’Rourke, Balfour Beatty in collaboration with Pearson. Kings Cornerstone will deliver following subjects within the first two years: Project, Science & Materials, Mathematics for Construction, Principles of Structural Design, Surveying, Measuring & Setting-out, Civil Engineering Technology, Group Project, Mathematics for Construction, Geotechnics & Soil Mechanics, Advanced Structural Design, Highway Engineering, Hydraulics and Construction Management.

This course is designed with employers, for the employers to produce job ready graduates. Civil engineers plan, design, construct and maintain structures and infrastructures which sit on or under the ground. These include roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, dams, water and wastewater plants, and buildings.

Employability skills and competencies for student career success is the key focus for this qualification by delivering learning that is rooted in the real world and to developing work-ready graduates with the professional skills and behaviours that employers need.
Core competencies are developed on programme in a balanced framework of cognitive (knowledge), affective (behaviours) and psychomotor (practical) learning outcomes to encourage a more vocational and practical approach to learning.

Unlike other programs, this course offers multiple awards, membership from Industry and professional bodies. This qualification has recognition and membership opportunities from Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) and Washington Accord.

Teaching includes learning from tutoring, case study, webinars, guest speakers from Industry, peer to peer discussion, presentation, role play, assignments (variety of forms including practical and written. Learners will be assessed based on their coursework (Harvard Systems) instead of an exam.

Course is aligned with the internship/apprenticeship framework from year two, learners must collaborate with industry to align with occupational standards to improve KSB’s (Knowledge, Skills and Behaviour). Required Occupational Standards for Resource Planning and Management, Civil/Infrastructure, Oil & Gas roles are embedded from initial stages of the program.

Bachelors in Engineering (Hons) Civil Engineering will be awarded upon completion of 2 years in Sydney campus. This degree is accredited by Washington Accord, which gives you a positive skill assessment when you apply for Australian Permanent residency. Using this qualification you may apply for the following visa options.

– 485 Temporary Graduate Visa (Work upto 2 yrs)
– Positive Skill Assessment for PR – 189/190 Visas

BTEC HN Award

This is a university packaged program with BTEC HN award from Pearson. Learners will complete 240 credits awarded during the first two years, prior transferring to UTS to complete the remaining modules. BTEC HN qualification integrates industry accreditations through the Joint Board of Moderators, VIncI, CIAT.
Using this certificate learners may apply for part-time work in Australia while studying. Learners are eligible to work up to 20 hrs/per week while studying and full time during semester breaks.

Case Study – Burj Al Arab

The building is built on sand, which is unusual as most tall buildings are founded on rock. The Burj al Arab is supported on 250, 1.5M diameter columns that go 45 meters under the sea. As there is only sand to hold the building up the columns rely on friction.

    We are looking for a passionate learner willing to study realistically, apply reasoning and ability to learn by doing, but not someone who can memorise and write the whole book without practised knowledge. Hence, your higher secondary results do not make any weight in the selection process, except for your functional abilities. Your entry to our programs depends on your statement of purpose and a personal interview with the academic board but not your higher secondary marks. So plan well for your admission interview and rationalising SOP.

    Most students enrol in our programs seeking a continuing career in their preferred field. The return on investment is very high if you chose to work in Melbourne, London, Toronto and Dublin when compared to the salaries paid in India. So, we recommend students seeking global career to enrol. If you are looking to return to India or seeking local placements or local jobs, then you don’t need to study at Kings Cornerstone or take study abroad route, there are plenty on good local institutions in India who can help.

    First, two years at Chennai campus is limited to 20-25 students per class. Every year we plan to recruit 250 to 300 students across all departments giving them the assured transfer to Melbourne campus. However, the final years at the Melbourne campus gives you the multicultural environment with 81,000 students studying across the RMIT.
